one of my favorite songs...
i do love the cutie pie sock singers but not so fond of the bluegrass version
this one is bestest. i had such a fascination/crush on freddy m. back in the day.
random searches on youtube rule the day. here are some of the spoils:
olafur eliasson at the tate modern
and some sonic beauty...
i do believe the fall colors have peaked, perhaps even a few weeks ago, but i think i like this late fall time the best,
when the last of the brillant colors are amongst the grey twigs and the skies are stormy...
beautiful.
my daily drives to get the littleman to nap are prime time to appreciate the season.
i am just crazy about knits... sweaters, blankets, scarves, hats, shawls, garments and domestics... all things knitty. and this is the season of the knit dress, by golly.
sadly, i am a pitiful knitter. though i'd like to improve on this... i have my doubts as to how quickly this will happen. in the meantime i am attempting to make use of discarded knit items i find around town and in my house... prentending i am on project runway or some such dream...
i could use a solid tutorial on garment construction and perhaps calm my inner clown and explore the world of monochromatic-ness... ah yes, all in good time. whew.. and clean up that work space missy.
i finally had the gumption and opportunity to recline in a hot bath and look through the latest metropolis and let the stunning paris hotel rooms designed by christian lacroix entertain my inner costume designer/appreciator.
dubbed "lavish mash-ups" these rooms are deliciously overwhelming in their density of pattern, texture, and "gingerbread", as my mother would say... the article tells us that in 13,000 sq feet there are "no less than 80 types of fabric, 20 tile motifs,10 carpet patterns, 7 totally different color schemes, and nearly 50 original collages used as ceiling and wall coverings"...
what? oh the tyranny of matching and symmetry... its really something i want to deconstruct a bit for myself... ok, first lets talk about matchy-matchy... i have never been one to be extreme about matching not like a sweet girly i know but.... i notice as i do and make, i see what a deeply cut groove matching is for me...
but maybe even more troubling than matching is the symmetry hang up... oooh its hard to get and stay crooked... actually thats not true, its easy for me to get crooked, a quilter in that sense of the term, i am not... but its the feeling that i am not doing something "right" if its crooked... be gone cruel monkey.... somehow ms lovely factors into this brain teaser...what an inspiration!!
so, i am trying to breathe deeply and embrace the naturally occuring wiggles, detours and all out chaos that is the sultle crooked line, mis- measured or un-measured sewing world that is me.
so that picture of the naked dress form didn't work... not sure why. you can see it here.
since i am burned out on quilts, i have switched gears... i have been having fun with my new gal apl, dressy bessie,
i remember dressy bessie of my youth, kindergarten in fact, with layers of clothing to practice snapping, zippering, buttoning and the dreaded... lacing. this is one of my first memories of being so self conscious that i couldn't do something that i faked it, hoping no one would notice... faking being able to lace up bessies vest... that and moving the dixie cup just far enough off my eye to see the exam chart at the eye doctors office... hmm, anyway, old bessie and i have been making some new things:
